Macey's Birth Story

Two weeks before my due date, on April 27th we had a doctors appointment and found out I was 3cm dilated and 70% effaced.  My Doctor, Doctor Olmstead, told us that if we wanted to induce we could because my cervix was very favorable and I would have no problems having her at 39 weeks.  She also thought that with how well I was progressing that I would most likely have the baby a week before my due date anyways.  We never really thought about inducing because I thought they wouldn't induce until 41 weeks.  Well that is only with your first baby.  When it is your second baby they will induce at 39 weeks.  So we decided to go home and think about it.

On Monday May 1st we called the clinic and scheduled the induction for May 5th.  I was still nervous about inducing so we scheduled another doctors appointment for May 3rd to talk to our doctor more about it and to see if I had progressed any further.

Side note:  our doctor was going out of town on the 4th so we wanted to get in and talk to her before she left.  We were also very sad she would not be able to deliver the baby. That was another thing I was nervous about.  I loved my doctor and was very nervous to have anyone else deliver because she new all my fears and concerns the best.

At the appointment we found out I had dilated to 4cm and was 80% effaced.  I was progressing really well, so Doctor Olmstead told us if we want that baby out now, we should definitely stick with our inducement date.  She reassured me that the doctors on call that day were awesome and that I would be in great hands.

After talking to her about it and getting all our questions answered.
We decided to stick with the inducement date.
We called my mom after the appointment and told her she better get on a plane tomorrow because we were going in on Friday to have a baby!

..............

Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. I got up and called Labor and Delivery to make sure it was still okay for us to come in for the induction.  They nurse on the other end said, "yup, you are good to come in and have a baby. We will see you soon."  When I heard that my heart started pounding because I could finally get excited.  I new that she for sure was going to be coming today and I was so excited.
I didn't want to get my hopes up earlier because I new that there was a possibility that there could be to many people at the hospital for the amount of staff they had,
so I waited to get excited till after calling Labor and Delivery.
I hurry and told Michael and my mom the good news and then hopped in the shower,
got my final things packed and headed to the hospital.  We got there at 7:00 a.m.

Once they took us back and we got settled into the room, the nurse that was going to be with us the rest of the day had us fill all the paper workout a head of time, so we didn't have to worry about it when the baby was here. She also wanted to get my IV in so that they could get my antibiotics going, I was Group B Strep Positive. So what that means is if I didn't get antibiotics in me before the baby came she could get really sick.  That is the basics of it.
The nurse decided that she would try to get my IV in and if she couldn't she would have the phlebotomist come in and do it.  I could already tell she was nervous to do it and I told her I would be freaking out the whole time because I am terrified of needles, but she still decided to do it and of course she could not get it through. I was bawling by this point, so she hurry and called the phlebotomist in.  He got it in and all set up with in 5min.
I was very grateful for that.

Once they got at least one whole bag of antibiotics in me they would start me on pitocin.
9:00 a.m. is when PIT was finally started.
A few hours went by and I still was not getting any contractions.  I was progressing, but my water did not break and the contractions had not started.
At 10:30 my mom and Michael went to go grab some lunch before things picked up. I thought that was a great idea so I sent them on their way.
Well of course right after they leave the Midwife on call came in and told me that they(she also had midwife student there) now want to break my water, to get things progressing faster.  I was kinda freaking out because Michael wasn't there and I didn't know what to expect.  With Liam it naturally broke, but I didn't feel anything and didn't realize it was my water that broke at first.
At 11:00 a.m. they broke my water.
Michael and my mom got back at 11:15
by 11:30 I started to feel the contractions come on very strong. Once I felt the first one I told the nurse to hurry and get the anesthesiologist in here so I could get that epidural in fast.
Once the epidural went in, my right side went pretty numb fast, but the left side was still feeling everything.  So we called the anesthesiologist again to have him fix it.  He came in and basically just wiggled the line around in my back and that magically fixed it.
He also pumped a lot of doses into me because by this point I was in tears of pain.
Finally at 12:00 p.m. the epidural was in and working perfectly!
That half hour of contractions was so painful, I never felt contractions that strong with Liam.

At 12:45 p.m. the nurse came in to see how I had progressed now that my contractions were going steady. I was dilated to an 8 and 100% effaced.  The nurse said she expected with in a few hours a baby would be here.  She also told me that when I was fully dilated and wanting to push that she would want me to labor down and fight the urge to push.  She wanted her head to work its way down a little more, so that the pushing would be easy.

At 2:20 p.m. the nurse checked me and I was fully dilated, so she told me once I felt the urge to push wait and labor down for a little while.

At about 2:45 p.m. I felt the strong urge to push, but labored down like the nurse said.

By 3:00 p.m. I could no longer hold the urge to push, so the nurse had me do one push to see if she wanted to get me ready or if I needed to wait a little longer.  So agreed I was definitely ready to go so she got me all situated to push. She had me do a second push now and immediately told me to stop pushing.  She ran and called the doctors in.  Apparently the babies head was coming out!!
Once the doctors got in they had me start pushing again.  My third push her head came out, the forth push her shoulders came out and with the fifth push the rest of her came out!

At 3:13 p.m. Macey Kay Nelson was born.

She came out crying and absolutely perfect.  She had nothing wrong, so she was able to be laid on me immediately and after a few minuted of letting the umbilical cord pump some finally nutrients into her, Michael got to cut it.  He never got to do this with Liam because Liam came out not breathing, so he was a high risk priority and taken away immediately, so we never got to experience the laying on the chest and cutting the cord.  Once he cut the cord they had me do one final push for the placenta.  Once that was out, the doctor asked if we wanted to see it.  Of course we said yes because we were not able to see it with Liam.   It's pretty gross looking, but she even opened up the sac where Macey was living for 9 months.  That was pretty cool and crazy to see.

Once I was all cleaned up, they left us alone for a few hours, so we could enjoy or new bundle of joy.
We could not believe how fast and easy it all went.  If you have read about Liam birth story you will under stand why we are so in awe of how easy it all was. I mean with in 5 pushes she was out!!
we were expecting at least an hour of pushing.
In that moment Macey was definitely the favorite child haha.

After the first few hours they came back in and got her weighed and measured and did all her vitals and shots.  She weighed in at 6lbs 15oz and measured 20" long.  She was a whole pound lighter than Liam, I was definitely grateful for that!

We are so grateful and happy she got here safe and healthy.
We can't believe we are a family of 4 now. I am so excited for what the future brings for our family. I know we are going to have just as much fun with this little girl, just as we have with our little boy!
I love my family so much.  They are my everything.

Last time as a family of 3

 Finally got the epidural

I had to be on my left side the whole time because my right side was the numbest.

This is when the nurse had me push for a second time and yelled at me to stop so she could call the doctors in because there was a head coming out 😂

Look at how tight that umbilical cord is.

This picture grosses me out because you can see the umbilical cord pulling on her belly button 😖

Michael cutting the umbilical cord.
Its a little hard to see, but we wanted to keep things PG. so this was the best angle we could get of it.

If you read about Liam's delivery you will know why I have a picture of my feet on here 😂

Weighing and measuring Macey as well as checking her vitals and giving her some shots.

THE FINAL WEEK

How far along?    39 weeks We are in the final week ladies and gents!! Maternity clothes? Only a few shirts  and a dress. Other than that I just wear leggings, dresses, and some of Michaels shirts. Stretch marks? Not a single one thank goodness! When I was in school I learned in my  Anatomy  and Physiology class that if you start putting on shay butter/coconut oil(I used the Palmers cocoa butter and sometimes add my 100% coconut essentials oil.) two months before getting pregnant, that it will help your skin loosen and become more elastic.  So once we decided to start trying I  immediately  got some lotion and put it on every other day(or you can put it on everyday).  I know that, that is what helped me not get any stretch marks. I cant  guarantee  it will work for everyone, but what I do know is that if you don't start lotioning your skin early, it for sure will not be ready for the  drastic  change that is about to happen. Sleep? I have actually

ANNIVERSARY # 3

If I had my life to live over again, I would find you sooner so that I could love you longer.  Happy Anniversary Michael. I love you so much.  You are my greatest adventure. I couldn't imagine life without you!   This is the beautiful rose I came home to after work! My husband truly is the best.  Little things like this let me know that he is thinking about. In a marriage I feel it is so vital to let your spouse know in anyway you want,  but to just let them know you are thinking of them and that you love them. I made this cutie some yummy breakfast in bed.... .......... After work we headed over to Pizza Pie Cafe in Bountiful. We know its not a typical dinner date for an anniversary, but we LOVE Pizza Pie. They have the best oreo pizza in the world. Seriously though it is one of my favorite places to eat! After our wonderful dinner at Pizza Pie, we headed up the mountain to go shoot our new gun. We had to get ther
